Discussing witchcraft, the undead or any other paranormal topics is too scary, gross or distasteful for some people. Others only have interests around Halloween time, which is upon us. If you like the gory or creepy, there are some good sites, but realize that, other than the kids sites mentioned, everything listed here should be previewed by adults first for appropriate content. Night Gallery is one of your more creepy places on the Internet. A beautiful, but hideous, skull-faced woman greets you at entrance into this graphic-intensive, multi-award winning Web site. The art work and design layout is very nice-a spectacularly visual site. Those with a fast connection to the Internet or a little patience, will want to take the "Graphic Tour" from the Night Galley main page. This short tour takes you through a series of scary graphics with animation and sounds. After selecting your browser type, you enter into a bizarre area. Check the Rude Fridge to see what moldy, slimy and disgusting things grow on food left in the refrigerator too long. You can also download a Scream Saver (monitor screen saver), read up on true Friday the 13th facts and much more. I recommended visiting it last year and it is still the best horror site, The Cabinet of Dr. Casey. This newly redesigned site is huge and has lots of crevices to check. Dr. Casey specializes in horror movies, but covers just about anything related to horror. One of Dr. Casey's listings that made me laugh out loud was his "Horror Movie Character's Survival Guide." Here you learn, "when it seems that you've killed the monster, never check to see if it's really dead" and "never read a book of demon summoning aloud, even as a joke" plus 232 other useful tips. In the spirit of Halloween, Dr. Casey also has a special collection of links called "Halloween on the Web." The single most complete site for anything "dark" such as the paranormal, vampires, horror, cemeteries and gothic images, is The Dark Side of the Net. There are over 4,600 active working links in the Dark Side of the Web section alone. These are not just a bunch of random, dull pages, but rather individually selected links that are check regularly. If all of this is too scary for you or you kids, try some fun at Halloween Village. Here you can get everything you need to make a "spooky 3D paper model of a haunted house," laugh at some funny "monster riddles" or play in the creepy playground. Halloween on the Net is a another kid-friendly site that tells the history of this holiday and its traditions. Filled with plenty of color and a coloring pages, this is a good family-oriented Web site. For the self-proclaimed, "most comprehensive home of Jack-O-Lantern history, techniques, tools, free patterns and information on the World Wide Web," visit Jack-O-Latern.Com. This award-winning pumpkin and melon carver shows you how to make a jack-o-latern that will be the envy of trick-or-traters everywhere. So for all your scary and not-so-scary Halloween fun this year, check the Internet for whatever interests you. |
