No matter what sport you follow, you can probably keep up-to-date and learn more about it on the Web. Since it's World Cup time, check either the Official 1998 Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) World Cup Information page or Soccernet for the latest and most in-depth coverage of the schedule, games and players. If you are following Wimbledon, the 1998 Wimbledon Championships Official Web Site is where you will want to start. Other sites that cover year-round tennis include the ATP Tour and USTA official sites and Tennis Magazine Online. There are just too many golf Websites to mention, but some of the best include the official PGA, LPGA and USGA sites. The U.S. Open has its own Website and there is plenty of golf information to be found in iGolf (from the editors of Golf Magazine), Golf.Com (sponsored by MSNBC, TotalSports and Golf Digest) and GolfWeb (sponsored by CBS SportsLine). My wife's favorite sports site is WNBA.com, the official site of the Women's National Basketball Association, but the American Basketball League (ABL) also has a nice site. Of course who can forget about the men's side of the court at NBA.com. For the "boys of summer" you'll want The Official Site of Major League Baseball for the latest in hits and runs. If you love sports with even more contact, there is football coverage on NFL.com, Superbowl.com (when in season) and Arena Football League. Hockey, considered by many to be a blood sport by nature, has NHL.com and WWW Hockey Guide and Rugby has its Rugby News Today. While professional sports are great for most, there are also amateur and collegiate games on the Internet. For information about the Olympic Games whether past or future, check the official Olympic Web site or keep up with the Goodwill Games starting in July at their site. The training ground for the Olympic and Goodwill games and most professional sports is often the NCAA. You can visit the main NCAA site for general college sports information or their NCAA Championships Website for championship game coverage when available. For overall sports coverage, try one of the big six: NANDO SportsServer, CBS SportsLine, ESPN SportsZone, CNN/Sports Illustrated, MSNBC Sports or Yahoo! Sports. All of these are very complete and well done. Your favorite will probably come down to just a matter of how you like the information formatted and not content, since all have about the same content and all provide constant score updates. If I haven't mentioned your favorite sport or you can't find it at one of the major sites, check Just Sports for Women or Yahoo!'s browseable listing of sports. With the Web as a tool, there is never an excuse for not keeping up with your favorite teams, no matter where you are. |
